Leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa has hailed President Lazarus Chakwera’s decision to cripple the delegated powers of vice president Saulos Chilima over his alleged involvement in corruption dealings.

In a report submitted to President Chakwera by the Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB), Chilima’s name is mentioned for dealing with British-Malawian businessman Zuneth Sattar corruptly, but it did not give detailed information on how the vice president is involvement.

In his National address on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 President Chakwera said he decide to strip off Chilima’s delegated powers in order to pave way for investigations.

According to Nankhumwa, the president has done well in his decisions.

“President Chakwera has also done well to halt all delegated duties to his Vice President, Saulos Chilima, for being suspected to have corruptly dealt with Sattar, until he is cleared of wrongdoing by ACB or any competent court of law,” said Nankhumwa.

Meanwhile, Chilima has said he will comment on the matter at an appropriate time.

However, different stakeholders are calling for the resignation of the vice president adding that if he fails, the parliament should take a step by impeaching him.
