Tobacco Transporters Down Tools To Force Govt To Increase Tob acco Charge Rates Following Fuel Hike

Reports reaching us indicates that Tobacco transporters in Mzuzu are on strike to force government to adjust tobacco charge rates amid the fuel hike.

Among others, they have refused to offload Tobacco bales which have been collected in some districts in the Northern Region.

In an interview, a member of the Northern Region Transporters Association, Samuel Nyasulu said they had already petitioned government through Tobacco Commission when the Mzuzu Auction Floors were opening about the issue but they had just adjusted with 5 percent when they had demanded for a 40 percent increment
