Speaker recognizes Chaponda as leader of opposition

Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara has recognized the appointment of former Minister Agriculture Dr. George Chaponda as leader of opposition in Parliament amid infighting in the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Chaponda has since been invited to business committee scheduled for Wednesday at Parliament building in Lilongwe.

This has been confirmed in a letter signed by Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba seen by this publication.

“In the first place, let me congratulates you for your appointment as the Leader of opposition in Parliament. In this regard, I have the owner to invite you to a Business Committee which will be held at Parliament Building in the Speaker’s Board Room on Wednesday, June 29, 2022,” reads in part the statement.
