The Ministry of Health (MoH) has ordered all public hospitals to desist from demanding police reports before treating injured patients.

The development comes amid outcry from many Malawians seeking services from public hospitals, saying the demand has led to loss of lives as patients are left unattended.

In memo seen by this publication, Secretary for Health Dr. Charles Mwansambo has said the requirement is not supported by law.

He claimed that demanding police report before assisting patients risk lives of people in need of urgent treatment.
