Pope Francis on Wenesday presented the Pallium to the Archbishop of the Catholic archdiocese of Lilongwe, George Desmond Tambala at the Vatican in Rome.

Tambala is among a group of other new archbishops from across the world who are in Rome for the ceremony and other engagements.

The Pallium is a sign of the essential and concrete dimension of being a good shepherd in a metropolitan Catholic church “which seeks to promote, maintain, and enhance the fraternal and effective communion of the pastors …among themselves; between the bishops and the faithful; and of the bishops and the faithful” with the Pope and the whole Church.

Archbishop Tambala is also the reigning president of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, the conference of all Catholic bishops in Malawi.
