The High Court in Blantyre has allowed Leader of Opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa to join a case in which some DPP legislators are challenging the election of George Chaponda as Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

Judge Mandala Mambulasa noted that Nankhumwa was already reinstated as Leader of Opposition in parliament by an exparte court order the lawmakers obtained in Lilongwe.

Nankhumwa’s case file will then be transferred to Lilongwe to be joined with the main case before Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda.

A total of 22 DPP MPs obtained an injunction restraining Chaponda from discharging his duties as leader of opposition replacing Nankhumwa.

The MPs claimed that the party flouting some procedures by not inviting them to take part in the election of leader of opposition.
