There are confusions on social media concerning the cold weather and the school uniform which public primary schools in the country have especially to the boy child.
Public primary schools allow a boy child to wear a short to school not a pair of trousers where most parents on social media are complaining.
In an interview with our reporter, Faith Chibweya, Blantyre based parent said the weather and the wearing of shorts to school does not marry in a way that some learners are absenting themselves from school due to the coldness in the short.
“Just put yourself in those little boys shoes, wearing a short to school during this cold weather it is a punishment of the highest level and education authorities should revise primary school dressing cold in their system,” Chibweya said.
According to Manuel Alufandika, Nkolokoti Primary School learner in Blantyre said he feels very old when he is wearing the short during this period when it is very old beyond imagination and that is the more reason why he sometimes absents himself from school just to run away from the cold weather.
“It is not like i do not want to attend classes but whenever i remember the day i was shivering despite wearing a top but my legs were out, meaning I exposed the legs to the bad weather with what I was wearing and that makes me not to go to school these days,” Alufandika said.
Another learner Brian Yobe, said he has made a decision of going to school two or three times a week due to the cold weather and he wishes his head teacher could have told them to wear trousers only for the cold weather and once it is hot they can go back to normal uniform.
“I wish our head teacher could tell us to wear trousers only for this period of harsh weather, i will be happy and i cannot be absent from school also,” Yobe expressed his wish.
Meanwhile Chikondi Chamala, Public Relations Officer for Ministry of Education said putting on Uniform in public primary schools is not compulsory it is the school and their governing bodies that made the policies.
