Colonel Panji Kaunda Rtd, a son to Zambia’s First President late Kenneth Kaunda has finally reported for duties in Malawi as High Commissioner.
Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema appointed Panji Kaunda as Ambassador to Malawi in May this year.
Today, Panji Kaunda met Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo ahead of his meeting with President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera where he is scheduled to deliver letters of credence.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed of the development in a statement posted on its official faceboook page seen by this publication.
“Honourable Nancy Tembo, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, receiving copies of letters of credence from His Excellency Panji Kaunda, High Commissioner-designate of the Republic of Zambia, on 4th July, 2022. His Excellency Kaunda is scheduled to present his credential to His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera shortly.
“During Hon. Tembo’s meeting with H.E. Kaunda, discussions centred on the promotion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation including through infrastructure investment projects such as the Twala and Nacala Corridors, One-Stop border posts, and Malawi’s participation at the African Union mid-year Coordination Conference in Lusaka,” reads in part the statement.
Kaunda’s appointment attracted backlash in Zambia as others claimed that Kenneth Kaunda’s son is too old for the post.
But Panji Kaunda trashed the claims.
