A 61-year- old man of Kitwe has committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth after shooting his 26-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old grandson who he accused of being against him.

Isaac Gondwe is believed to have told his wife Sara Gondwe, who he was not in talking terms with that he was not feeling well and she advised him to go and take some pain killers.

However, in the process, he went to the room of his two victims, separated them from the rest of the family by locking them in another room and shot them.

His 26-year-victim who happens to be his daughter is in a stable condition after being shot in the chest area, while his 13-year- old victim who is his grandson is in critical condition after sustaining a bullet wound beside his mouth.

Copperbelt Province Commanding officer Sharon Zulu said police recorded a case of attempted murder and suicide which happened today at 03:00 hours at plot number AA 83 Cha Cha Cha road in Kitwe.

“Edwich Chibuye aged 24 of the same address reported that her Grandfather, a retired Miner shot his daughter Esnart Gondwe who sustained a penetrative bullet wound on the left side of the chest. He also shot his grandson Kondwani Lungu aged 13 who sustained bullet wound beside the left side of the mouth. He thereafter shot himself dead after sustaining penetrative bullet wounds in the mouth and exited in the skull,” she said.

Ms Zulu said a Glock Pistol serial number BBVC063 was used in the act.

“The suspect went to the rooms were other members of the family sleeps and separated the two victims from the other family members and started accusing the two of always being against him. It’s from there that he shot them. He the wanted to shoot the wife, but the gun jammed. He then went and locked himself in the bedroom where he also shot himself,” she said.

Ms Zulu said police visited the crime scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood on his bed and a Glock Pistol was found besides the body in the bedroom.

“Two empty cartridges were picked in the spare bedroom where the two victims were locked and shot. Two more cartridges were picked in the passage within the house. The condition of the female victim is stable, while the juvenile is critical,” she said.
