One police officer and two other people yesterday afternoon survived in a minor car accident in Dowa District.

According to Dowa Police Station Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha the accident happened at Atiel Private School along Lilongwe-Kasungu road and involved a motor vehicle registration number MP 2684 Toyota Land Cruiser Pick up driven by a police officer from Mzuzu Police Station and a motor vehicle registration number MHG 5627 Toyota Axio Saloon driven by Malawi Defence Force (MDF )officer from Kamuzu Barracks.

At the particular time around 15:30 hours, the driver of police service vehicle was driving from the direction of Lilongwe heading Mzuzu with two passengers on board.

Upon arrival at Atiel Private School, the MDF officer started overtaking the police service vehicle and in the process of overtaking, he hit behind the police service vehicle.

Following the impact, the police service vehicle swerved to the nearside verge and overturned.

A police officer sustained a cut on the forehead on both arms while two other people sustained cuts on their foreheads and the MDF officer escaped unhurt.

The police service vehicle had its cab extensively damaged while Toyota Axio had its offside fender and lens damaged
