Parliament’s agriculture committee is accusing the Tonse government of deliberately attempting to kill Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) for what it terms as purely political reasons.

The accusation follows the parastatal’s failure to start buying and selling maize in its markets across the country.

ADMARC has been unable to buy maize and instead government has provided financial resources to the National Food Reserve Agency for the same purpose.

Committee chairperson Sameer Suleman has since described the move as deplorable saying it would greatly affect ordinary people who are currently subjected to high maize prices on the market.

There was no immediate comment from the government.
