Residents of Eldama-Ravine in Baringo County are still finding it hard to come to terms with an incident whereby a woman allegedly killed her two stepdaughters.

Olivia Jepchirchir, the woman, confessed to killing Shanice Jebet aged 4 and Ivy Cherop aged 7 then dumped their bodies in a dam near their home.

Confirming the incident is the Eldama-Ravine deputy sub-county police commander, Caxton Nduda who said that the bodies of the children were found floating in a dam and might have been killed by homemade ropes tied around their necks.

According to Jonathan Kipkemboi Kesses, the father of the children, he had left his children under the watch of his new wife and went to work. On returning home in the evening at 8.00 pm, he was shocked to find the house empty. His wife returned passed midnight without the children.

When he asked about the whereabouts of the children, Olivia told him that she had left them in the house before going to the shop to buy a matchbox. She however changed her statement the following morning when the police were called.

Olivia told the police that she had been attacked by unknown people in a maize plantation who stabbed her severally body until she lost conscious before confessing to having killed the children.

The bodies of the children were moved to Eldama-Ravine hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem as investigations continue.
