National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has ranked ten counties where women consume approximately eight litres of alcohol every week.

Nairobi, Nakuru and Kiambu take the top three spots consecutively, according to the report.

Kisumu, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Nyeri and Machakos follow in that order.

Counties with least women alcoholics are Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, Turkana and Samburu.

From the report shared by Standard Digital, 28% of these alcoholic women are at the child bearing stage.

Some of the factors contributing to higher consumption of alcohol include loneliness and infidelity. They turn to these hard drinks as coping mechanisms.

Experts however warn that consumption of alcohol has adverse effects to the society and their health.

Pregnant women indulging in binge alcoholism have higher chances of giving birth to children who are not ‘well’. They are advised not to drink when expectant.

The society most likely disowns women who drink and their husbands abandon them.
