Former President Peter Mutharika who is also leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to immediately resign for failing to fulfill some of the campaign promises.

Mutharika made the call on Sunday during a media briefing held at his retirement home in the easten district of Mangochi.

Mutharika pinpointed what Lazarus Chakwera pledged that he would step aside once he fails to lead Malawi within two years.

“Tonse Alliance has failed to manage the economy and it has to go. Its time for President Chakwera to resign,” said Mutharika.

The former President also strongly condemned the tendency of some so-called political analysts who tend to blame the mighty DPP on current challenges the country is sailing through.

Mutharika noted that the country has lost direction and is sinking as Malawi has a pilot who knows nothing.

“The country has a pilot who knows nothing and does not know where his ship is heading to,” said Mutharika.

Concurring with Mutharika, DPP National Organizing Secretary Honourable Chimwemwe Chipungu bemoaned continued sidelining of the youth under Chakwera’s regime.

He has cited discontinuance of Technical Colleges and lack of clear direction on the future of the 250 Secondary Schools.

Meanwhile, Minister of Information Gospel Kazako has brushed off calls for Chakwera’s resignation.
