Police in Mulanje are keeping in custody traditional leader in Mulanje has been arrested together with six others on suspicion, they are connected to a series of recent robberies in the district.
Mulanje Police Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Gresham Ngwira has confirmed of the arrest.
According to Ngwira, the Village Headman Namunda and the six have been arrested in an operation “Ndakuona” jointly conducted by officers from the South East Police Region.
Ngwira said, “of late unknown criminals have been terrorizing various parts of the district stealing assorted items and cash, an example is the recent robbery at Milonde ADMARC Depot where unknown people attacked a security guard and stole some cash.”
Police say, the local leader Namunda, whose real name is Mukhori Wines and the six alleged accomplices will appear in court soon to answer charges of robbery.
