Cases of the novel Corona Virus are on the rise in the country, in reference to statistics shared by the Ministry of health seen by this publication.
According to the statement, signed by Minister of Health Khumbize kandodo Chiponda, at least 87 people have been tested positive of the virus.
The stamen added that at least 15 people have recovered from the virus and no one has died in the past 24 hours.
“In the past 24 hours, Malawi has registered 87 new COVID-19 cases, 15 new recoveries and zero deaths. All the new cases are locally transmitted; 38 in Blantyre, 24 in Lilongwe, six each in Mangochi and Zomba, four in Mzimba North, two each in Mwanza and Thyolo, and one each in Ntchisi, Nkhata Bay, Nkhotakota, Karonga and Mzimba South.” Read part of the statement.
The statement continues; “Cumulatively, Malawi has recorded 87,105 cases including 2,656 deaths (Case Fatality Rate is at 3.05%). Of these cases, 2,891 are imported infections and 84,214 are locally transmitted. Cumulatively, 83,576 cases have now recovered (recovery rate of 95.95%) and 290 were lost to follow-up. This brings the total number of active cases to 583.”
Up to date over 4 million doses of vaccine have been administered in the country so far.
Cumulatively 2,386,662 people have received their first dose, 1,716,923 are fully vaccinated and 49,238 have received their booster doses. Over the past two weeks, 103,125 people have received their first doses while 76,697 got fully vaccinated and 7,644 got their booster doses.
