The Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has demanded for the immediate release of Human Rights Ambassador leaders, who were arrested by the Police yesterday following violent demonstrations in Lilongwe.
In a statement released by DPP’s legal affairs Director Charles Mhango, has described the arrest of the protesters as barbaric.
He said the Civil Society Leaders were served with the injunction the same morning of the demos which is wrong.
Mhango further said the leaders were even arrested away from the demonstration routes in Area 3, where they had gone to seek services of a lawyer to vacate the injunction.
He has further described as laughable, efforts by government to stop the demos when two years ago, the same MCP and Tonse alliance partners inflicted upon the nation most violent demonstrations which were characterized by looting, arson, assault, undressing of women and even killing a police officer.
