Former Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali has criticized Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu Manda over failure by flames striker Gabadinho Mhango to attend CAF awards in Rabat, Morocco.

Mhango’s goal against Morroco in AFRCON was nominated for the Goal of the Year Award but he failed to make it to the award ceremony.

The goal of the year award went to Pape Ousmane Sakho of Senegal and Simba FC.

Writing on his official facebook page, Kachali blasted Nyimilandu on the matter and he has since asked the Minister of Sports to fire him.

“I would like to register my utmost disappointment with the leadership of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and I hope I speak for the majority of Malawians. There is no way a nominated player for a CAF award, in our case Gabadinho Mhango, would fail to attend the award ceremony yet the so called FAM President Walter Nyamilandu Manda managed to attend the same. What an embarrassment to the nation!

“I am aware that Government is not supposed to interfere in the operations of FAM as per FIFA rules. However, Government has a say and an interest in FAM as it funds the institution through the National Sports Council. FAM President since 2004, Walter Nyamilandu-Manda has overstayed his welcome. This has been demonstrated by what we have been hearing for long that he employs careless, uncouth and autocratic practices at the Football Association. He MUST be replaced. The Minister responsible for Sports Chimwendo Richard William Banda should work with FAM affiliates to correct the wrongs at FAM, priority being removing Walter Nyamilandu from the presidency of FAM,” wrote Kachali.
