Police in Blantyre are keeping a 24 year old woman Mercy Banda for allegedly killing her own 7-year old child.

According to Blantyre Police Deputy Spokesperson Aubrey Singanyama, the suspect is alleged to have committed the offence in  the afternoon of  July 21, 2022 at Bonongwe area in Chilobwe Township.

Singanyama reports that on the fateful day, Banda slapped the child unconscious as she was angered by the child’s state.

It is alleged that she noticed unusual signs on the child who had her eyes protruding and a swollen mouth.

The child was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Banda who is currently at Soche Police, is expected to appear before court to answer a charge of Murder.
