Veteran politician Brown Mpinganjira has dumped the opposition Democratic Progress Party (DPP) and he has joined the Malawi Congress party (MCP).

Mpinganjira is currently being welcomed at MCP regional offices in Blantyre.

In his speech Mpinganjira claimed that MCP is becoming more popular in the south hence his move to join the party.

“My role in this party will be to ensure that president Lazarus Chakwera amasses many votes in the southern region come 2025,” he said.

Mpinganjira said it was naive for people to blame President Lazarus Chakwera for the current economic mess, the country is grappling with, but rather the invasion of Russia in Ukraine.

He once served as DPP spokesperson under the reign of former President Peter Mutharika.

Apart from the Mpinganjira, the party has also welcomed Friday Jumbe, Allan Chiyembekeza and Henry Phoya.

The party has also roped in Frank Banda from the Democratic Progressive Party.
