Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDED) is claiming that the alleged abduction of its Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa is not surprising.
According to a statement from the grouping Namiwa has on different occasions being invited for meetings who agenda was not clearly stated.
“He has on several occasions within this week been pestered by authorities at Area 30 Police Headquarters in Lilongwe and Lilongwe District Council to attend meetings whose agenda was not clearly stated,” read part of the statement.
Police and Council authorities are yet to comment on the claim.
Just after 45 minutes Namiwa finished addressing the media on today’s demonstrations against president Lazarus Chakwera, news broke that unknown people abducted Namiwa at area 3 in the capital Lilongwe.
According to CDEDI officials the whereabouts of Namiwa remains unknown.
The Malawi police said they are investigating the matter.
