Malawi’s Minister of Homeland Security Jean Sendeza told Parliament that the alleged abduction of a human rights activist on Wednesday was staged and planned by the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
According to Sendeza, the move was made to drag the image of Tonse Alliance led government in the mud.
Sendeza was responding to concerns raised by Mwanza Central and Mulanje South West lawmakers on the whereabouts of Namiwa.
Mulanje South West MP George Chaponda says they have evidence that before his abduction Namiwa received a number of threats from people who are involved in the allowance scandals by some government officials.
However, Sendeza has called for a report from Chaponda on the allegations; saying the matter is under investigation and any information might be helpful.
Meanwhile, Namiwa has been found, he was allegedly dumped by his abductors at Nanthenje in Lilongwe.
