Merlyne Nachulu Yolamu, the new Inspector General of Malawi Police has been given 17 votes out of 18.
Yolamu was today appearing before the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament where she was interviewed following her appointment as IG by President Lazarus Chakwera.
According to inside sources, 17 members of the committee voted ‘YES’ while one member rejected Yolamu.
The Committee has 21 members and according to the source, other three members had gone out to attend to other meetings.
Joyce Chitsulo Chairperson of Public appointments Committee PAC said a report will be submitted to the whole House for Yolamu’s confirmation process on Friday.
Commenting on allegations that Yolamu is involved in Zunneth Sattar corruption scandal, Chitsulo said the Committee engaged the Anti Corruption Bureau – ACB on the matter and Yolamu was cleared.
