ZAMBIA – Whilst a man from Nsama District of Northern Province, was out fishing, tragedy struck as his wife and seven children died in a fire that swept through their house.
Richard Musonda’s family had taken a lit brazier inside the house to stay warm as they went to sleep. As a result, their grass-thatched roof caught fire and spread so fast that it did not give any of the inhabitants a chance to get out.
Neighbours phoned Musonda to tell him the devastating news.
The age range of the seven children was between two and was eighteen years old.
Understandably, it took Musonda a day to come to terms with how his family perished, for him to go and report the incident to Kaputa Police Station.
The police confirmed the incident stating it occurred on August 7, 2022 at around 22:00 hours in Katwatwa Village.
Zambian Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the bodies were found burnt to ashes at the scene of the incident.
Hamoonga disclosed that the bodies have been deposited at the hospital awaiting postmortem and burial.
