Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has blasted President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for accepting to attend this years United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) in person.
Since assuming the highest office in 2020 Chakwera has never physically attended the high level summit in his capacity as president due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
Speaking in an interview with the press State House Press Officer Anthony Kasunda said with vaccines available to all delegates, the United Nations has invited Heads of State to attend in person.
Kasunda said Chakwera has since accepted the invitation.
But writing on his official facebook page Chimbanga blasted Chakwera by likening his thinking to potatoes.
“It’s unfortunate that men of integrity are hard to come by. Austerity my foot malawi is going through a very turbulent period economically but the leadership is in denial. They criticized APM for attending such talk shows but the Reverend and his team see justification of such a trip to the UN with all the problems deviling malawi.
“The explanation according to the State House Statement say” because he has never attended UNGA physically” yes that’s it. Reverend Chakwera thinks like Kondwani Nankhumwa sometimes. They think like potatoes. What is the cost based analysis of this trip really? I leave this to the ordinary Malawians who are suffering to provide for their families and finance these trips.” Wrote Chimbanga.
Recently Chakwera cancelled his trip to Mozambique and Zambia.
