Former Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali has taken to social media to celebrate the conviction of former commissioner for Malawi Electoral Commission, Linda Kunje.

Kunje and her driver have been convicted on the offense of criminal negligence which is contrary to Section 246 of the Penal Code.

The two were being accused of obstructing President Lazarus Chakwera’s convoy when he was travelling from Blantyre to Zomba in December 2020.

Writing on his official facebook page after the ruling, Kachali applauded the Judiciary for showing professionalism in handling the case.

“Fellow Patriotic Malawians, I would like to congratulate the Malawi Judiciary for demonstrating professionalism in the way it has handled the case concerning Ms. Linda Kunje. I welcome the judgement. I encourage the judiciary to handle all other cases in a similar manner.

“I do not celebrate her conviction but Ms. Linda Kunje is known for her uncouth behaviour. Arrogance and impudence is written all over her face. I still remember how she walked out of our members of parliament and hurled insults at them. I hope her current predicament will instil discipline in her,” wrote Kachali.

He added: “See, you may differ politically with the governing authorities but it is only proper to respect them. After all, it is biblical.

“Despite her weaknesses, I pray the court to give her a befitting and fair sentence.”

The two have since been remanded to Zomba Central Prison pending sentencing.
