A five-month-old baby has died in Ntchisi after a house it was sleeping in was set ablaze during the night of Sunday, August 21, 2022.
Ntchisi Police Spokesperson, Yohane Tasowana said the incident took place at Chiwombola Village in Traditional Authority (TA) Kalumos area when the baby was fast asleep with its mother Esnath Nyasulu and Chikondi Boston.
Police investigations indicate that the suspect, Boston Khwanya who is on separation with his wife Nyasulu opted to set on fire the house the three were sleeping in.
“This was after the two had negotiations over their marriage during the same night,” he said.
According to Tasowana, the baby died on the spot while Nyasulu and Chikondi sustained injuries from the fire and both are admitted to Ntchisi District Hospital.
Police have since arrested the suspect who hails from Kandaya Village in Traditional Authority Kalumos area and will soon appear before the court to answer murder and arson charges.
