Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, says his administration will continue working together with other Royal Highnesses and traditional leaders to promote the role of culture in putting an end to Child Marriage in Zambia.

He said this during the celebration of the Kulamba tradional ceremony of the Chewa speaking people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

“Working closely with His Royal Highnesse Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi as we & UNESCO recognise Gule Wa Mkulu as an Intangible Cultural Heritage for Humanity as we’ll continue to work with Royal Highnesses across Zambia to preserve our culture & promote peace & unity in our country,” Hichilema said.

He further highlighted that his administration will keep on working with their Royal Highnesses across the country to ensure that natural resources like land, forests, wildlife and minerals are used to equitably benefit local communities.

“Hunting licenses were put aside to allow local people to work together with conssesion holders, so that local communities can also benefit from this activity. Not where a company earns Us$10million from a concession but local people are only given $25,000,” he added.

Further, HH said that all future hunting concessions in Zambia will be in partnership with the local community hence need for mining licences to be given to the local people and work with them and investors to exploit God given natural resources.

He has then urged his people to make full use of available opportunities through our Government’s free education policy and Constituency Development Fund, to benefit from social & economic dividends for the children in areas like Education, Health and Skills Development.

President Lazarus Chakwera together with First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera also attended the ceremony.
