Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema has taken to social media to celebrate the victory of the newly elected President of Kenya Wlliam Ruto.
Leader of opposition in Kenya Raila Odinga challenged Ruto’s election and took the matter to Court.
In its ruling today, the Supreme Court of Appeal of Kenya said William Ruto was properly elected president, dismissing several petitions seeking to annul the August 9 election result.
Ruto garnered 50.5% of the vote in the closely fought election and will be sworn in as the country’s fifth president next week.
After the ruling, Hakainde Hichilema took to social media to celebrate the victory.
“Our congratulations to Dr William Samoei Ruto, on being declared the Fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.
“We look forward to working with you, Your Excellency, to strengthen and enhance the historical good relations between Zambia and Kenya. This is based on our shared priorities which include peace and security on our continent, democracy, as well as greater economic prosperity and social development for our two peoples,” wrote Hakainde Hichilema.
Meanwhile, Odinga has quashed the Supreme Court ruling on the matter.
