SA – On Monday 22 August, a fight over a loaf of bread and meat took an unexpected turn when a man was stabbed to death and his attacker’s ear was cut off in a Motherwell tavern.

On Thursday, August 25, the 29-year-old man from Gqeberha made his first appearance in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge.

According to Gqeberha police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart, the men had an argument over bread and meat at the NU11 tavern. “It is alleged that a fight broke out between the parties in which one of the males was stabbed multiple times and the other male’s ear was cut off.”

Algoa FM stated that the injured suspect was taken to the Motherwell Health Centre for medical treatment, where 30-year-old Sinetemba Peter died.
Swart said that the suspect, whose ear had been severed, was apprehended the next day at the health center.
