Tonse Alliance partner, Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) reveals it will at a later stage make an appropriate decision on whether to stay in the nine-party-alliance or not.
The party’s Director of Public Relations, Chris Thaulo has disclosed this; adding after a thorough analysis, the public shall know their stand.
He says currently they are intact with the alliance supporting President Lazarus Chakwera.
“The status is the same. We are Tonse Alliance partner. There is no any other change as of now,” says Thaulo; promising that when things go wrong, they will come up and say something.
Meanwhile, the party hints it may go for a convention next year but falls short of specifying the dates; saying the focus is now on their nationwide rebranding drive.
But political commentator, Ceasor Kondowe fears the party’s rebranding efforts might not bear positive results on the political landscape if it fails to meaningfully deal with its succession plan.
Recently, there have been voices of discontent from another Alliance partner, UTM, whose members feel their leader Dr. Saulos Chilima is being sidelined despite contributing towards the current administration’s victory in the 2020 court sanctioned presidential elections that saw nine political parties coming together to boot Peter Mutharika and his Democratic Progressive Party out of government.
