A head teacher and a school committee chairperson at Mtazi Primary School in Nkhata Bay have been arrested for allegedly embezzling K11million meant for the construction of a head teacher’s house.
Nkhata Bay Police Public Relations Officer, Kondwani James has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to James, the school was selected by the Ministry of Education to be a beneficially of the School Improvement Plan strategy and was allocated K17 million last year for the construction of a head teacher’s house.
However, when the project commenced, the two started withdrawing the money without the knowledge of other officials at the District Education Office.
The suspects have been remanded at Nkhata Bay prison as they wait for court proceedings.
