Well-known musician cum-politician, Fredokiss, real name Penjani Kalua has blasted the Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda for blocking the immediate release of Mussa John who is serving a 3 year jail sentence after being found in possession of Chamba.

Leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa on Tuesday penned President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera demanding for the release of Mussa John and former Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioner Linda Kunje.

Responding on behalf of the President, Chakaka Nyirenda said the pardon guidelines dictate that the inmate to be pardoned should serve at least half of the sentence apart from showing good behaviour.
He said the President cannot pardon anyone because of external pressure.

But reacting to Chakaka’s response Fredokiss expressed shock over the stand taken by the Attorney General.

“My question is “When Bingu Pardoned Aunt Tiwo who was sentenced and had only spent days in jail, which constitution did he use”? They were sentenced to 14 years in prison but their sentence was lifted on “Humanitarian grounds” after meeting the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon,” wrote Kalua.

Meanwhile, it is yet to be seen if Chakwera will act on the calls or not.
