AN 18-year-old grade 12 boy of Luanshya has allegedly committed suicide using his school tie after he failed his GCE examination.
Jason Chonde was found by his father Thomas Chishala hanging by the neck in his bedroom.
Copperbelt Province Commanding officer Sharon Zulu said police received a report of suicide which happened yesterday between 11:30 hours and 16:30 hours in Luanshya’s Roan Township.
“Brief facts surrounding the case are that, yesterday, Chishala ,the father to the deceased woke up at around 08:00 hours with all family members in good health including the deceased. At around 11:30 hours, he left home and went to the market to have his scale repaired leaving everyone at home.
Around 16:, 30hours he went back home and found the gate locked ,but managed to get inside. Then to his surprise he found the house locked. He then went round the house and found the window to his son’s (now deceased) bedroom open and to his amazement he saw his son hanging from the roof with a school neck tie,” she said.
She said Mr Chishala then called on his neighbors to witness what had happened and there after he reported the matter to the police.
“Police visited the crime scene and confirmed the report. During inspection Police found the phone of the deceased on his bed and upon checking through the phone, it was discovered that the deceased had checked his grade 12 GCE results which showed that he has failed,” he said.
Ms Zulu added that it is strongly suspected that the deaceasd failing his GCE examination could be the cause for him to take his life.
“The body of the deceased was later deposited to Roan General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial. However relatives do not suspect any foul play,” she said.
