Deputy Minister of Lands Deus Gumba has complained about the delays to complete 10 houses for police officers in Mwanza District.

“Despite government paying the contractors, it is bad that the houses were delayed for a period of two months which will affect the government’s plan,” said Gumba.

Mwanza Central legislator Nicholas Dausi of Democratic Progressive Party said police officers need houses closer to their duty stations.

“Some officers rent houses far away from their station and that affects their work in the sense that they also need to work during night hours and it can be hard for them to be leaving home late at night to work,” he said.

In an interview Palms and Malbro Construction company site supervisor Takula Kamodzi said the delay to slow supply of construction materials by their suppliers.

“The materials are delivered in small quantities due to logistical challenges faced by our suppliers,” he said.

The government sets 31 July 2022 as the second deadline of the project after it missed the first deadline of 31 December 2021.

These houses are being constructed under the first phase of constructing 10 000  houses for officers in Malawi.
