Dedza District Council handed over classroom blocks to communities at Chinkhumbe primary school in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Kachindamoto to promote education in the district.

Lottie Makina, Dedza District Council acting Director of planning and development said inadequate classrooms is one of the challenges many schools are facing in some parts of our country.

Makina said many schools across all the eight traditional authorities of the district do not have proper classrooms and desks, which is a very challenging situation.

“More learners are dropping out of school because of inadequate classrooms, especially for girls,” he said.

The school blocks comes together with 120 desks, two modern toilets, and a staff room and will accommodate 240 students per class.

He further said in the 2022/2023 financial year, the Council has set up to K120 million to construct additional classroom blocks in T/A Kaphuka and T/A Kachere.
