Hiccups are involuntary contractions of the diagram.

They are not permanent, as they do not last for too long.

In any case, a hiccup is never prolonged for more than some minutes.

But certain circumstances may occur, which as a result will make hiccups last much longer than they should.

Note that hiccups can affect every person, be it women, men, teens, old age person’s and even babies.

What may cause hiccups in people include, eating and drinking too quickly, fear or excitement, and perhaps when breathing is stopped for some time.

As stated earlier on, hiccups are temporary effects.

So if by any chance, a person should experience hiccups for a day or so, it is advisable to seek medical attention.

But before that, there are certain things you can do to stop hiccups.

Let’s take an instance where you may be eating, and then suddenly the hiccups begin.

What you should do here is to consume some water to make it stop.

Also, you could hold your breath for a little while.

Using air bag’s.

Slightly patting the chest.

Most importantly though, try to slow your breathing. As hiccups occur, we tend to breathe through our mouth.

So then slowing one’s breathing can calm the hiccups and eventually make it stop.
