The former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has endorse demonstrations against President Lazarus Chakwera’s led government organized by Joshua Chisa Mbele of Citizens against Impunity and Corruption.
Chisa Mbele announced that on October 28th, 2022 they will demonstrate to State House where president Chakwera resides to pour their grievances on how the Tonse Alliance government is carrying out its affairs.
According to Mbele, rampant corruption among others is what pushed them to call for action and demonstrate.
Quoting the Constitution, the endorsement letter said it is the right of each and every individual to assemble and demonstrate peacefully with others and unarmed, hence their move to endorse and join the protests.
“The Democratic Progressive Party is calling all Malawians and its membership to join the upcoming demonstrations slated for Thursday, the 28th and Friday the 29th October, 2022, in Blantyre, Zomba, Mzuzu and Lilongwe organized by Mr. Joshua Chisa Mbele and colleagues of Action Against Impunity against Tonse Government Institutionalized corruption, incompetence and impunity,” read part of the statement signed by DPP’s administrative secretary Francis Mphepo.
The statement further called on Tonse Alliance government to facilitate the planned demonstrations by “providing necessary security to persons and property.”
The DPP is warned the government of attempting to frustrate and tamper with the demonstration either directly or indirectly.
Reacting to DPP’s endorsement, Chisa Mbele welcomed them wholeheartedly and said that no one should involve their planned demonstrations with political affiliation.
According to Chisa Mbele, DPP has not paid a single tambala towards the protests.
“We wholeheartedly welcome the Endorsement. All we need are Malawians from all walks of life regardless of their political affiliations. I’m sharing this to say to those who are so rigidly associated with political alignment, we are not for any political party. DPP hasn’t made a single Tambala contribution,” said Chisa Mbele.
He then called on Malawians whom he said are victim of corruption to speak to Chakwera in large numbers.
Today President Chakwera is expected to address the nation on the matters of national interests.
