Police in Machinga are keeping in custody Majinga Primary school head teacher for allegedly handing a corporal punishment to a standard three leaner who is only 8 years old.
According to Nselema police Station Officer Bostone Amanzi, on October 26, 2022 the deputy head teacher Rafael Chikabwereza made the boy o kneel for over an hour on a bare concrete floor during a sunny afternoon.
Reports say the offence the boy committed was to play around the school’s garden.
From the punishment, the boy sustained serious bruises around his knees.
Meanwhile, a Child rights activist, Amos Chibwana has expressed shock at the development saying the law should take its course on the teacher, as the boy is no longer attending classes due to a traumatic experience he went through.
Chikabwereza is expected to appear in court on today.
