Police in Kafue have arrested two boys aged 17 and 18 for faking an abduction.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in a statement that the 18-year-old is alleged to have squandered his mother’s money with his friends on Sunday.

Mr Hamoonga explained that the mother sent the boy to buy a timing belt for the motor vehicle.

He said the two later conspired to call the father to the same boy on Saturday and cheated that they were abducted, adding that the abductor needed K500 for them to be released.

The Police Spokesperson said the father however doubted them because he was able to hear his son’s voice in the background and that he sounded not to be in trouble.

He said the 18-year-old returned home and was taken to the Police Station by the uncle for questioning where he confessed that he was not abducted as earlier communicated to his father but was afraid to go back home because he had squandered the money.
