The Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has accused some Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of planning to sell State owned Chipoka Oil Depot to Indians.

HRDC made the revelations in a statement made available to faceofmalawi.

The HRDC has since warned the said MPs to rescind the decision or face a unspecified action.

“Some Malawi Congress Party ( MCP) MPs have been directly involved in the search for buyers in particular , Indians, to buy the State owned Chipoka Oil Depot which was constructed by the Father and Founder of this Nation Ngwazi Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

“This is part of a strategy by the power hungry Backbenchers as they are trying to Control the Oil Business in Malawi . The Chipoka Oil Depot Facility was built as part of nation building and is the property of Malawi Government managed by NOCMA. This is truly shocking! These MPs have no morals,” reads in part the statement.

Added the statement:“Kamuzu had good intentions for this country. He knew that the country will need oil storage facilities to enable us keep as much fuel as possible. If this is part of disinvesting target, then its a big error . Malawi needs this oil facility.

“Let these greedy MPs be warned that Malawians will not allow them to succeed with their evil plans!!”.

Effort to talk to MCP spokesperson Maurice Munthali proved futile.
