The families of the 70 Gambian children who died after taking cough syrup have rejected the money given to them by the government.

It was said that the children were given cough syrup which later led to an Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in them.

The cough syrup was produced by the Indian pharmaceutical industry.

The families of the victims have refused to accept compensation from the government as they fight for justice for their children

According to the BBC news Pidgin, the Gambian government gave the families of the children $20,000 for them to share.

Ebrima Sanyang who is a chairperson in the community said that the money that was given to them is an insult to their children.

And if they accept the money that means they are not fighting for justice.

The families of the victims added that they want the State Medicine Control Agency to withdraw its statement that the children died from flood waters and not from bad medicine
