The High Court in Lilongwe on Wednesday vacated an injunction obtained by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members Joe Thomas Nyirongo and Kenneth Nsonda, restraining the party from recognising all positions appointed to the party’s National Governing Council (NGC) after the 2018 National Political Conference.

High Court Judge William Msiska delivered the ruling in his Chambers on Wednesday.

Following the ruling, the DPP can now recognise positions appointed into the NGC by the party’s president Peter Mutharika after the 2018 National Political Conference, including that of party Spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba.

The two, DPP deputy director of operations Joe Thomas Nyirongo and Kenneth Msonda protested the appointment of 30 persons into the party’s governing council.

The two argued in court that the appointment is illegal and only meant to fulfil the wishes of party leader Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) who is against his challengers.

But in his ruling, Judge Msiska faulted the two saying they were not DPP NGC members hence vacating the injunction.

The development means all newly appointed members including DPP Councillor for the South Leonard Chimbanga will now start serving the party in their new roles.
