Dedza magistrate court through Senior Resident Magistrate, Clemence Chamwenda has today adjourned hearing of a robbery case involving three men who stole assorted items from the late Alinafe Bonongwe, to 5th December 2022 for hearing.
Bonongwe, who until his death was Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Station Officer for Dedza Border was found dead in his house.
Court documents indicate that the three, Samson Mkhalapadzuwa, Gerald Maida and Tingoyang’ana Kadango, during the night of 4 February 2022, entered the house of the deceased armed with a rope and stole 3.2 million Kwacha cash, two cellphones and other assorted items.
State prosecutor Patrick Chipote said it is on record that the three threatened and used actual violence on the deceased in an effort to obtain the stolen property, further playing video clips as evidence in the court.
However, Defense Counsel Chikondi Kambuwa argued that the videos were edited and that her clients were narrating under duress.
Chamwenda then overruled the objection by the defense, allowing the state to play the videos.
He however ordered the state to provide uncompressed video footage before one week for the state to appreciate.
