South Africans have reportedly called on the government to ban the keeping of pitbull dogs at home within the country because of the danger the god poses to the public.
The citizens made this appeal after a pitbull mauled an 8-year-old boy to death in Vista Park, Bloemfontein.
According to BBC News Yoruba, the dog went off leash and got into the boy’s house by jumping the wall into the garden at about 2 pm.
Lieutenant Colonel Thank Cobane, the spokesperson of the police station said that the dog attacked and killed the deceased while he was playing, by biting into his neck.
According to him, when the ambulances arrived from the police station, the boy’s body was still laying dead in the garden.
The dog was shot and brought down.
He revealed that the incident is not the first time a dog has killed a person in South Africa.
According to reports, South Africa has the highest number of people dying from dog attacks in the world.
Two Pitbulls reportedly killed a 10-year-old boy earlier before this particular incident.
About 50,000 South African citizens have taken to social media to say that they no longer want Pitbulls as a pet in the country.
Sizwe Kupelo Foundation, an organization that has submitted a petition to ban the dogs said that their actions are because of the frequency of Pitbull attacks on human fatalities in the country.
