In what can be described as a dramatic twist of events, National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) has revealed that the board terminated the contract for it’s Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Hellen Buluma.

This is contrary to a statement released by Buluma indicating that she has resigned from her posts due to undue pressure from her superiors and politicians in the government to bring new fuel suppliers on the list of suppliers in an effort to counter the existing fuel crisis in the country.

According to a leaked to communication dated November 15, 2022 from NOCMA board, Buluma has been fired after a second legal opinion sought from the Attorney General.

“I regret to inform you that you have been relieved from your duties, effective immediately in compliance with the Ombudsman’s determination,” reads in part the letter signed by NOCMA board chair Colleen Zamba.
