Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has said she will proceed to discipline Member of Parliament for Mzimba North Constituency Yeremiah Chihana should he fail to bring evidence to substantiate an allegation he made that K30 billion went missing at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Hara’s ruling comes after the house went into division, following a motion by leader of the house Richard Chimwendo Banda who asked for suspension of proceedings to allow Parliament officials to bring a recording of what Chihana had said in the morning.
Banda and Minister of Finance Sosten Gwengwe expressed concern that the speaker was being lenient on Chihana.
The two wanted Hara to ask Chihana to withdraw the statement, but the lawmaker remained adamant.
