Police in NkhataBay are keeping in custody a 40-year-old man Lyman Salima Kamanga for allegedly injuring his own four months-old baby by throwing it against the ground at Msumba in the district for reasons yet to be known.
According to Nkhata-Bay police spokesperson Sergeant Kondwani James, Kamanga is suspected to have committed the crime on 14 November, 2022.
According to the baby’s grandmother, she saw the suspect holding the baby by both hands and legs and eventually throwing it on the ground. The suspect was later arrested on 19th November.
James said the baby sustained a cut on the forehead and was referred to Nkhata Bay District Hospital, where it was later referred to Mzuzu Central Hospital, and it was discovered that its both legs suffered twisted bones.
Kamanga who hails from Msumba Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mankhambira, will appear in court soon to answer charges of Act intended to cause grievance harm.
