Former President Peter Mutharika on Sunday abruptly called off an indaba with all Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmakers at PAGE house in the eastern district of Mangochi.

Mutharika’s spokesperson Shadric Namalomba has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Namalomba, Mutharika wanted to urge the legislators not to support the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Constituency Redermacation Report, but got frustrated that the government side successfully presented the same on Friday.

“I can confirm that Mutharika cancelled the meeting,” Namalomba was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, political analysts have faulted Mutharika for not holding the Indaba when Parliament was on recess.
