Kawinga Health Center maternity wing in Machinga district is reportedly operating without electricity.
According to health authorities in the district, said they are currently relying on solar lumps when discharging duties as they are waiting for the facility to be electrified.
This defies the order by the deputy health minister Enock Phale that the facility should be electrified and opened.
District health office spokesperson, Clifton Ngozo said they have reported the matter to Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) to have the facility electrified.
Presidential advisor on safe motherhood, Dorothy Ngoma has also asked the authorities have an ambulance to carry pregnant women to other facilities like Ntaja and Chikweo in terms of emergencies, to access maternal health services.
